Introducing Koji Paper

"What matters most isn't the paper's weight but how the paper is made." — KIAACE about their process in developing Koji Paper

Koji Paper is a paper developed by KIAACE, a stationery manufacturer based in Xiamen, China that is also the company behind those WriteMe TRP journals.

After years of producing notebooks for other brands, KIAACE decided to develop it's own paper with Oji Paper, one of Japan's major paper manufacturer's, giving us this 52g Koji Paper.

Thicker paper doesn't always mean better fountain pen performance. Throughout their time producing various notebooks, KIAACE found that even some 100g papers can bleed or feather, while lightweight papers can produce beautiful ink colors and sheen.

What matters most isn't the paper's weight but how the paper is made. That's what led to the development of Koji Paper.

Together with Oji Paper, KIAACE tested and refined everything from the paper's structure to it's surface treatment and ink absorption. The result is a thin, light weight paper designed to resist bleed-through while bringing out rich ink colors and providing a smooth fountain pen writing experience.

When I first tried Koji paper, I was surprised by how similar it felt to Tomoe River Paper, especially the kind used in the Hobonichi Weeks. Koji has a slightly cream-like tone rather than a plain white color. It's also thin and crinkly. It handles most wet pens surprisingly well although there is some ghosting.

You can now find Koji Paper products from WriteMe at Jellie's World. WriteMe is rolling them out steadily, so here's a look at the ones available so far:
